have designed this stunning and incredibly unique hotel in Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland, the northernmost province of Finland – and the coldest. The hotel was designed in 2016 and covers a total area of 1,450 square meters.
The concept for the Arctic TreeHouse, as it is called, came inspired by Nordic nature and culture as well as from the nearby Santa Park, an amusement park and visitor attraction near Rovaniemi which is designed to emulate the cavern residence of Santa Claus on the Arctic circle. As such, small buildings were designed, set in nature, their spirit highlighting characteristics of the area and providing the perfect setting to experience both nature and Arctic mysticism.
Each of the accommodation units – 32 in total – have shingle-covered walls, and have been set in pairs. There are also two types, which can be combined to create a larger whole, one equipped with a mini-kitchen, the other with a small fridge.
Light pollution has been minimized as much as possible in order to enhance the guests’ experience to the fullest, allowing for a better experience while in nature and a better chance of catching the gorgeous northern lights that the region is known for.
